Montrail Gears Up for the 2012 Western States 100 Weekend Events

“It’s the sport’s yearly crowning event, and it’s arguably the best day in sport — for a variety of reasons. There’s no admission, no parking charges, no assigned seating, no parimutuel betting. And it’s as compelling as any horse race, baseball game or boxing match. The arena, which extends from Squaw Valley to Auburn, offers the opportunity to watch endurance athletes at intimately close range.” – James Raia,

Montrail is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the 2012 Western States 100 Endurance Run, one of the oldest and most prestigious ultra trail events in the world, taking place Saturday, June 23, 2012. This year’s race features defending women’s champion Montrail athlete Ellie Greenwood along with a field of more than 360 entries, from 34 countries and 41 states.

Runners start at 5 a.m. in Squaw Valley, Calif. on the morning of June 23, then climb and descend more than 40,000 feet following trail on the remote and rugged Northern California terrain finishing 100 miles later at Placer High School in Auburn, Calif. Top runners will cross the finish about 9 p.m. Saturday, and the 30-hour time limit means finishers will be coming in to Auburn throughout the night and well into Sunday morning.

Twitter. On race day, they will have a Live Coverage page with additional insight and commentary as well as an open discussion.
